After an epic weekend riding Stratton pow at the Homesick event, it was time to visit the Neon Wave crew in Stowe. Lucas picked me up from my hotel at 7am to head to Stowe Mtn. and meet Foxy and JG for some bluebird laps that morning. It was an honor to be shown around by the local legends and end our ride with a classic East Coast tree line that lead us out of bounds. Post lunch, we linked up with Dennis Healy at the Neon Wave Stowe shop to make our way over to JG’s house and check out his collection of snowboard memorabilia. From prototype Burton flex boots to a discontinued board waxing machine, JG has countless gems in his possession. Not to mention the quiver of hand shaped Gerry Lopez surfboards. The main toy we were curious about getting our hands on was the new “Shred Eye” snowsurf he’s been refining over the last few years. JG sat down with me for an impromptu garage interview, surrounded by Shred Eye shapes both new and old, to discuss the vision behind the boards. Then of course, we hiked up behind his house to test out the featherlight Varial foam boards. Turns out you don’t need much to have a lot of fun, just a hill on the side of the road, really.
