An Interview with JG Shredeye by Nate Zoller

editorial
JG has spent the last few decades (literally) shaping snowboarding. When he’s not doing that, he’s surfing whenever and wherever he can. A few years back he had the idea to bring those two worlds even closer together - a snowsurf made with the same high-end materials that are utilized in today’s high-performance surfboards. Designed in Vermont and crafted in Ventura, CA, his Shredeye boards are as much surfboards as they are binding-less snowboards–the water beneath them is just a bit colder than your typical east coast break. With that in mind, we figured it was best for him to sit down with another seasoned surfer to answer a few basic questions. Neon Wave Team Rider Nate Zoller sits down with JG to take a deep dive into his slabs of foam and what makes them some of the funnest planks on the hill.

Introducing Grain Surfboards

editorial
Just up the road from York Beach is Grain's HQ - a full-scale board production facility, surf shop and classroom. Grain's mission in production and in concept is to design and build truly sustainable surfboards. Truly sustainable as in sourcing materials to shape from local softwoods, blowing the idea of foam right out of the water, no pun intended.

Signs Of Wear w/ Mario

editorial
The idea of extending the life and application of our clothing has become more and more prevalent. Much to the credit of the makers, sewers, crafters, and textile workers who have carried on their traditions and foraged fresh ones of their own. Mario’s work, in tandem with the initial makers/designers, stands in opposition to the familiar push for more and more; purchase, wear, discard, repeat.

A Guide to Technical Layering: Cold Weather Systems

editorial
You have surely heard the term and practiced the act in the context of textiles. Something as simple as throwing a jacket over a tee or adding tights under your snowpants are good examples of how integral layering is in our day to day dress. Past that, why is it important and what is the point to building a solid layering system? Think of your layers as a micro-shelter. Your own personal eco-system that impacts how you experience temperature, moisture levels, and physical output in any given environment. At its core, an effective and appropriate layering system will help regulate temperature, keep you dry, provide full range of motion, and protect you from the elements; keeping you warm and comfortable. A good system means more fun and safety outdoors and more time connecting with what you love.

Trip Log: The Gunks

Some 280 miles southeast of Rochester and 90 miles north of New York City, a stoney ridge rises above the surrounding countryside. The light, sandy colored cliffs stand in contrast to the dense green forests that swallow the rest of the earth below.
